PROJECT BACKGROUND
Upper Chirkhwa Hydropower Project having a capacity of 4.70 MW is developed by Chirkhwa Hydropower Ltd. (CHPL). It is a Run of River (RoR) type Project with a design discharge of 2.35 m3/s. It has a powerhouse equipped with 2 units of Pelton turbine, each with a capacity of 2.35 MW.
The project site is located in Sadananda Municipality (as per new boundary relocation) of Bhojpur District in the Eastern Development Region, about 175 kilometers (aerial distance) east of Kathmandu. The nearest airport is at Tumlingtar, situated about 20 km from the project area. Geographically, the project area is located between Latitude 27°21'23''N to 27°22'30''N and Longitude 87°04'48''E to 87°06'32''E.
Tumlingtar is the airport in Sankhuwasabha district and can be reached in 35 minutes by air travel from Kathmandu International airport, which is approximately 180 kilometers aerial distance toward the east direction from Kathmandu. The proposed powerhouse site is 19.5 kilometers from Tumlingtar.
